All-optical repeater using an optical fiber amplifier with a periodic gain and index corrugations

Abstract

If the periodic gain and/or index corrugations are embedded into the optical-fiber laser, we can expect that the transmitted field will be selectively much enhanced under certain conditions of both the corrugation period and amplifier length. Thus, this possibility will be theoretically analyzed with an optical-fiber laser having square-shaped periodic gain and/or index corrugations toward a repeater for cw and pulse-mode propagations in an optical communication system.
