Abstract

Many neodymium-activated laser systems require Q-switch operation at high repetition rates and high peak output powers. Passive Q-switches are used in many applications. Ideally, these Q-switches would be made from inorganic solids, such as single crystals, that exhibit desired properties, which include chemical stability, high thermal conductivity, good heat dissipation, and ease of manufacturing and operation.
