Abstract
This paper reports the first observation of cw optical-phase conjugation by means of stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) in an optical fiber. SBS is an attractive technique for phase conjugation because of the simplicity of its implementation. High-intensity pump beams are required, however, to overcome the SBS oscillation threshold. Thus, in a bulk medium, SBS is typically observed with a pulsed laser in a focused beam geometry.
