Abstract

Partially polarized light is commonly described in terms of either coherency matrix or the four Stokes parameters. The latter description is adopted here. Consequently, the effects of a depolarizing medium on the State of polarization of a propagating light are conveniently described by the so called 4×4 Mueller matrix (operator).1–3
