Abstract
We describe the dynamics and other aspects of the most basic nonlinear photorefractive wave mixing process, the two-beam coupling. It is found to display signal-dependent gain broadening, changes in the sign of the coupling coefficient, and shifts in the gain peaks, when nondegeneracy of the beams and the application of a dc electric field on the photorefractive crystal are included.
