Abstract
A detailed characterization of the organic nonlinear crystal 4-nitro-4′-methylbenzylideneaniline (NMBA) has been completed. Large single crystals of this compound (5 × 4×1 cm3) were grown. Three optically flat and parallel specimens were prepared, each having their main faces parallel to either the (100), (010), or (001) direction. Microscopy of the (010) sample showed that no dispersion of the dielectric axes was occurring in the 440-630-nm range.
