Abstract
With the advent of efficient diode lasers, there has been an intense effort to employ these lasers as pump sources for solid state laser materials. The factor that has limited the immediate success in pumping rare earths other than Nd3+ has been the availability of laser diodes of sufficient output power at the appropriate wavelength. In this paper, we report the successful lasing of codoped Er3+, Yb3+:phosphate glass at 1.535μm using a 0.962μm output strained layer InGaAs laser diode.
