Abstract

The physical origin of gain nonlinearity in semiconductor diode lasers has been associated with spectral hole burning,1 hot carriers,2 and cavity standing wave-induced dielectric feedback.3 Our purpose is to perform an experiment which would distinguish between these mechanisms. The experiment that is developed for this work involves measurement of the magnitude and phase of the probe laser frequency response under optical injection by a rf modulated pump.
