Fiber optic pulse compression is a widely used method for shortening pulses in the picosecond and femtosecond range.1,2 The method has been used for generating the shortest pulses on record.2 Typically, it is necessary to amplify compressed pulses to obtain ultrashort pulses and broadband probe sources. Conventional amplification schemes operate at repetition rates from 10 Hz to 10 kHz. We demonstrate simultaneous fiber optic pulse compression and amplification at megahertz repetition rates. With this combination we obtain ~300-kW peak powers in a 170-fs pulse at a repetition rate of 2 MHz.
