There is a significant market for chemical sensors based on fiber optics, and to date a number of schemes have been reported in the literature and recently reviewed.1 Because of the need for successful and commercial systems, there is still considerable scope for development of techniques to sense parameters such as pH conveniently, reversibly, and accurately at a reasonable cost. Research on the use of a fluorescent agent with pH varying properties for incorporation into a fiber optic sensor is presented.
