Abstract
A high peak power, high repetitive rate cw pumped ML Nd:YAG laser at 1319 nm has found wide-range applications on soliton generation1,2 and optical fiber testing. Recent studies3,4 suggest that ML performance from the YLF laser may be superior to that of the YAG laser, primarily due 50 the YLF’s unique characteristics of natural birefringence with negligible thermal birefringence loss and much lower thermal tensing under high lamp input. Additionally, the ML pulse width from YLF is shorter than that of the YAG due to its broader linewidth. We report the experiments on the optimization and performance of ML Nd:YLF lasers with 4F3/2→4I13/2 laser transition at 1313 nm to assess its potential as a much superior laser source for 1.3-µm applications.
