Abstract
A prototype ultraviolet (UV) fluorescence lidar system was used to measure fluorescence decay times of known samples. In many fluorescence studies, the decay time of a substance can be a useful discriminator in the identification of substances. However, an accurate determination of the sample fluorescence decay time cannot be obtained directly from the lidar return signal since the response function of the detection system is inherently embedded in the total received decay time signal.
