Implosion experiments with cryogenic foam targets1,2 (cryotarget) have been performed using the twelve-beam Gekko XII green laser. Each 35-cm diam beam was uniformly focused onto a cryotarget at an energy level of 10 kJ with a 1-ns Gaussian temporal profile. A new system for fabricating cryotargets was developed and installed on the experimental vacuum chamber.3 A plastic foam target was dipped into liquid deuterium and then frozen in the cryogenic shroud after measuring the added D2 mass.
