Abstract
Surface emitting lasers are promising for uses requiring high power coherent emission. Currently, however, power outputs have been limited to less than 1.4 W. We discuss results of grating coupled surface emitters which emit over 300 mW from a 50-μm wide gain region. The losses associated with the grating region are studied and correlated with the device performance.
