Abstract
Parametric amplification through four-wave mixing of three interacting beams in an optical fiber has been intensively investigated in recent years.1 It has been shown that large amplification values and large frequency shifts may be obtained. We study the parametric interaction which occurs between a carrier and the sidebands of a weakly modulated signal propagating in a single-mode optical fiber. We show that the gain for the sidebands depends strongly on the relative phase between the two sidebands and linearly on the pump power and interaction length.
