Abstract

A recent picosecond laser study1 of the quasicontinuum (QC) of C2F5CI showed that the absorption process could be characterized as predominantly intensity dependent, contrary to generally believed fluence dependence of excitation in the QC. The small-signal absorption cross section σ0 also showed a considerable increase with decreasing pulse duration. We report here a systematic study of similar observations in C3F7I and SF6.
