Diffraction-coupled real index-guided semiconductor laser arrays

Abstract

One major problem in operation of regular monolithic phase-locked semiconductor laser arrays is their preferred operation with a phase difference of 180° between adjacent elements.1 (In such arrays the interaction between the lasers is maintained by waveguide coupling distributed along the laser cavity.) Furthermore, gain-saturation effects can alter the modal characteristics even in arrays designed for inphase operation.2
