Abstract
Coherent adaptive techniques (COAT) should become widely used both in active and passive modern optics. Atmospheric imaging as well as laser beam handling in workshops, for example, are likely domains to benefit from the aberration correcting power of the COAT concept.1 Cost-effective components with adapted frequency response are, however, not yet available for most applications. Optical phase dithering is a crucial step in some of the most successful implementations of COAT.
