Abstract
High quality, laser beam apodization has been the goal of solid-state laser device research programs since the early 1970s. The ability to shape the spatial intensity profile of a low to moderate power laser beam, prior to propagation through several stages of amplification, determines to a large extent the ultimate performance of high peak power and high average power systems.
