Abstract

Using a new integrated self-electrooptic effect device (SEED), we demonstrate a 2 × 2 array of optically bistable switches. The switching threshold can be set between 1 mW and 40 pW by a separate light source. There are only two electrical connections to the whole array. Good uniformity of switching is demonstrated over all four devices with a >2.5:1 contrast ratio.
