Abstract

Multisection semiconductor lasers with axially nonuniform pumping (Fig. 1) are promising candidates for optoelectronic digital processing devices. In earlier studies,1–3 coupled rate equations were employed to account for the appearance of hysteresis in current-light output characteristics. Although qualitative explanations were obtained, the predicted hysteresis widths are usually much greater than experimental results.
