Abstract
Realizing optical functions in single-mode optical fibers is extremely attractive because of negligible device attenuation combined with ease of handling and interfacing. Such devices could be used for optical switching, routing and multiplexing, as well as for optical sensor and logic applications. Many functions are enhanced using resonant optical circuits1 wherein small perturbations can readily alter the state of the interferometer Furthermore, all fiber resonators may be key elements for fiber lasers and amplifiers.
