Abstract

Two new atomic He-Ne lasers were recently developed which are expected to find widespread applications in medicine, dentistry, fiber optics, and other fields requiring low-power milliwatt lasers. The new lasers have operating parameters very similar to the ubiquitous red (633-nm) He-Ne laser with operating lifetimes well above 20,000 h, electric wall power of 10-100 W, and discharge currents of 3-8 mA.
