Abstract

Extensive work on Ho:αβ:YAG material has been performed over the years along with associated work on Tm:Er:YAG.1 Recent studies by Barnes2 on the Tm 2.01-μm laser line has shown reasonable performance for both pulsed and cw operation at 77 K. The present work reports cw operation at 1.88 μm for the first time. Applications for pulsed operation of the Tm 1.88-μm wavelength include atmospheric studies, generation of mid-IR wavelengths by stimulated Raman downconversion, optical parametric oscillation, and quadrupling into the blue spectral region.
