Abstract
High-repetition-rate Q-switched solid-state lasers are needed for a variety of scientific and industrial applications. With Nd:YAG technology pumping requirements dictate a compromise in peak power with repetition rate (prf) in Q-switched operation. Above 50-100 Hz flash-pumped systems are impractical, and the gain of cw-pumped YAG lasers is too low for high peak power (0.1-1-mW) generation.
