Abstract

The absorption properties of highly excited C2F5Cl molecules are studied using ultrashort CO2 laser pulses. In this molecule, it is possible to observe a multiphoton dissociation spectrum corresponding to the ν6 + ν10 hot band.1 The important characteristic of this hot band is that there is no measurable absorption at the same frequencies when the molecules are cold. Hence any unusual absorption properties observed can be entirely attributed to vibrationally hot molecules.
