Abstract

The KrF laser wavelength has proven to be near optimum for coupling to laser fusion targets. This property along with its scalability to high pulse energy, high pulse repetition frequency, and high efficiency qualifies the laser for serious investigation as a function driver system. The high gain and short upper level lifetime are problems to be solved for giant pulse fusion systems.
