Abstract

Several recent observations in photorefractive materials1-3 cannot be explained by the single-level single-charge carrier model developed by Kukhtarev. These include the observation of erase rates and photoconductivities that depend on Ix, where 0 < x < 1,1 erase time dependence that cannot be fitted with a single rate,2 and annealing to change the dominant charge carrier from holes to electrons.3 Simultaneous electron and hole transport is investigated to understand whether these observations can be fitted by this model.
