Novel photoacoustic measurements using a fiber-optic transducer

Abstract

The operation of an all-fiber spectrophone is described. The pressure sensing transducer was constructed by winding 9.2 m of high N.A. fiber into the shape of a 2.54-cm diam hollow cylinder, 4.1 cm in length. A layer of silicon rubber adhesive on the outside surface allowed expansion of the device, while retaining the cylindrical shape and containing the absorbing gas. The fiber ends were then spliced into one arm of an all-fiber Mach-Zehnder interferometer, details of which have been published.1,2
