Abstract
The Raman effect relates to the change of frequency observed when a monochromatic light beam is scattered by molecules or crystals. Unlike the so-called stimulated or coherent Raman processes, which correspond to strong emissions, the spectral analysis spontaneous Raman scattering exhibits very weak lines or bands whose frequency shifts and intensities unambiguously characterize the polyatomic species present in a sample. Raman spectra complement the IR absorption in studying
