Abstract
Laser action has been observed in XeCI in a novel longitudinal discharge device operating without internal electrodes. The all-glass system utilizes displacement current through the walls to excite the laser gas. The discharge is driven by an air core transformer connected as a Tesla coil. The absence of metal electrodes in contact with the gas is expected to increase the gas lifetime and perhaps lead to a seated excimer laser.
