Abstract
Not long ago, we proposed1 use of high-resolution stimulated Raman gain spectroscopy (SRGS) and other related coherent Raman techniques to measure molecular flow velocities. Recently we succeeded in observing the spectral line shifts resulting from a molecular flow and performed our first experimental demonstration of subsonic velocity measurements using SRGS in molecular nitrogen.2 In this paper, we present (1) a summary of our initial subsonic velocity measurements using SRGS, (2) the progress of our much improved molecular flow measurements using high-resolution inverse Raman scattering, and (3) a feasibility study using high- resolution coherent Raman spectroscopy performed on a single-shot basis for real-time measurements of molecular flow.
