Abstract
Infrared-multiphoton absorption is a powerful technique for preparing ensembles of exicted molecules that can be used in energy-transfer experiments and in studies of chemical reactivity. To take full advantage of this technique, the ensembles of excited molecules must be adequately characterized both theoretically and experimentally. Toward this end, we have performed experiments to investigate unimolecular reactions, intensity effects in the absorption process, and the IR fluorescence of the excited molecules.
