Abstract

High-speed sources and photodetectors in the visible and near IR are essential in applications such as ultra-high-speed optical communications sytems, fiber-optic system characterization, picosecond photochemistry, and laser ranging. Opto-Electronics has developed a line of very high-speed detectors with rise times as fast as 25 psec for selected devices. To complement these detectors it is necessary to have sources having pulse lengths in the 10-100-psec range which are reliable and simple to operate.
