Subpicosecond pulse generation in a synchronously mode-locked bidirectional ring laser

Abstract

We report the production of 0.5-psec pulses, the shortest yet obtained from a synchronously mode-locked laser. This cw dye laser is operated as a ring laser without a unidirectional device, and thus two pulses circulate internally in opposite directions.
