Abstract

Theoretical analyses have shown that the distribution of toroidal plasma current in tokamaks can be obtained indirectly by measurement of the poloidal magnetic field.1,2 During the past few years several techniques have been suggested to measure the poloidal magnetic field by projecting linearly polarized submillimeter wave laser beams through the plasma and measuring the Faraday rotation of the polarization.3-5
