Abstract

A dye laser pumped by a Xe-ion laser has a simple structure, is inexpensive, and has a long pulse duration and a high conversion efficiency.1-3 We have constructed a high-power Xe-ion laser with 10-kW output peak power and FWHM of 300 nsec. The discharge tube is 125 cm long, with a bore diameter of 4.5 mm, driven by 16.6 kV and a capacitor of 0.04 μF. The Xe-ion laser has a large ballastic reservoir and uses indium electrodes. The stability of-the output is ~2.% with a 1.0-Hz repetition cate. A compound cavity is developed for the rhodamine 6G dye laser by substituting the output mirror with a grating.
