Bistable Operation of a Two-Core Coherently Combined Fiber Laser

Abstract

Multiple stable supermodes are predicted and observed in a Y-shaped resonator. Applied phase error between the two gain arms is passively compensated by self-adjustment of the gain-dependent phase. Observation of hysteresis in self-phasing confirms bistability.
