Abstract

We have successfully demonstrated an efficient cw operation of Er-doped Lu2O3 ceramic laser at 2.8 μm wavelength. A slope efficiency of 29% was achieved with a high-quality transparent ceramic with doping concentration of 11 at. %. To our knowledge, this is the highest slope efficiency obtained by a diode-pumped Er:Lu2O3 laser including the reports using a single crystal. In addition, an output power of 2.3 W was obtained under the pump power of 10 W, which is also the highest value obtained by Er:Lu2O3 ceramic laser.
