Quantitative evaluation of cascaded EDFA transient response and transmission quality in long-reach optical burst transmission over field-installed fiber

Abstract

We clarify the relationship between EDFA transient response and the transmission quality in metro-scale burst transmission with gain clamping. We also experimentally demonstrate that 264-km, 12-span error-free transmission can be achieved over field-installed SMF.
