Improvement on Post-FEC BER Performance by Iterative Decoding Between a Feed-forward Carrier-Phase Estimator and an FEC Decoder

Abstract

We experimentally investigate the performance of iterative decoding between a trellis-based feed-forward carrier-phase estimator and an FEC decoder for DP-16QAM optical signals. The degradation of post-FEC BER performance due to residual phase noise is efficiently compensated.
